Needs and Impact Assessment 2025

The Office of Addictions and Mental Health, in collaboration with several government departments, Nova Scotia Health, IWK Health, and community organizations, including the Community Grief and Emotional Wellness Hub, is designing a plan for community conversations across Colchester, Cumberland, and East Hants Counties. A consulting company called Davis Pier was hired to help with this work.

Engagement with those who live and work in communities most affected by the Mass Casualty is important to meet the Mass Casualty Commission’s recommendations while providing needed support for Nova Scotians.

This work directly relates to Recommendation C.13, which advises government to address the public health emergency resulting from the unmet need for mental health, grief and bereavement supports following the Mass Casualty.

We are committed to a community-led process. Diverse perspectives shared by community organizations, service providers, and Mi’kmaw partners are vital to shaping a responsive and community-centered approach to meeting future needs.

What happens next?
Community conversations will be held late summer and into the early fall 2025, including:

  1. Conversations with community organizations/service providers
  2. Conversations with community members
  3. Survey option

These conversations will help clarify how current supports have helped Nova Scotians. These are opportunities to learn more about the response to unmet needs, ask questions, and share your feedback.

Dates, times, locations – and other ways to participate – will be published on this page as details are confirmed.
