Background Information

Mental health literacy is essential to Universal Mental Health and Addictions Care in Nova Scotia. It involves recognizing disorders, understanding causes, seeking help, and reducing stigma. Strengthening mental health literacy promotes early intervention, reduces crises, and builds community resilience. 

The Mental Health Literacy Strategy establishes a sustainable framework to improve mental health outcomes. Through targeted initiatives, it fosters resilience, reduces stigma, and ensures equitable access to mental health and addiction resources. The Mental Health Literacy Strategy aims to create a comprehensive and sustainable framework for improving mental health outcomes across Nova Scotia. By addressing mental health literacy through targeted initiatives, each pillar contributes to a unified vision of fostering resilience, reducing stigma, and ensuring equitable access to mental health and addiction resources.
