The Asthma Action Plan

An asthma action plan is a 2-page guide that helps caregivers manage a child’s asthma symptoms. It uses pictures and simple instructions to show what to do in different situations. The plan can be used at home, school, or daycare.

The layout looks like a stoplight:

  • Green means the child is doing well. and provides information on daily care.
  • Yellow means symptoms are getting worse and describes steps to help control them.
  • Red means the child needs medical help immediately and to go to the hospital.

Research shows that using an asthma action plan can help families avoid trips to the hospital.
